The rental credit is very misleading. It states that you get full credit towards purchasing an instrument, but they don't tell you that it is only for (2) off-brand instrument makers and does not count for better instruments (until you actually want to use the credit).

Wanted to trade up to a higher end name brand sax, and they said they would only give us $200 of the $800 in credit we accrued towards it. Ended up buying a much better instrument for less elsewhere.

I am guessing it is the corporate scheme using vagueness and poorly trained staff. You will be better off buying an instrument on Amazon or Ebay and selling if it does not work out.

I had the same experience. Music Arts bought the store I was renting my child's student Sax from.

The original store had in my contract that it would apply my rental credit towards upgrading the instrument to any other brand or level. Music Arts told me they had a similar policy. However, when I actually went to try to upgrade to a professional level instrument, they told me that I could only apply the rental credit if I was buying within the same category, i.e. another student Sax.

What would be the point of that ? I already had one of the better student instruments. At the same time I started hearing negative reviews about their policies and customer service and I decided I could not trust them. I ended up buying from another seller , who provided excellent service and was very patient with explaining all the details of the various models and helped me arrive at a final choice.

Music and Arts lost a few thousand dollars worth of my business due to their restrictive policy and bad reputation. When I had spoken to them earlier about the rental credit being applied to an upgrade, they had cleverly failed to mention all these exceptions, or I would have cut my losses and got out of the rental agreement with them much earlier.

I'm surprised that even with so much bad publicity and bad reviews floating around the senior most management of the company doesn't care to rectify their policies and improve customer service. Be warned and stay away from them.

I do not recommend buying from Amazon or EBay. Once you make a purchase on eBay you are stuck with it.

Amazon sellers also do not do refunds and more often than not are fake replicas. The reason Music Stores charge a little more for their instruments is because they are purchased directly from manufacturers and then professionally serviced to insure they play at top levels. When you rent from these companies, the rental and credit terms are in the contract you signed.

Many people do not take the time to read it. ALWAYS read what you sign!
